4 gauge welded wire mesh sheets
Heavier mesh for slabs that need more steel. 4 gauge wire (W4.0) welded on a 6 in grid, in flat 8 × 20 ft sheets.
Specifications
Sizes, weights and steel areas are nominal. Follow your drawings and your engineer for design values.

Typical uses
- Slabs where the drawings call for 6×6 W4.0/W4.0, or for around 0.08 in²/ft (169 mm²/m) each way.
- Thicker slabs on grade, where the steel needed for crack control goes up with slab thickness.
- Shop floors, aprons and pads specified by an engineer.
4 gauge has about 38% more steel each way than 6 gauge. It is heavier to handle, so plan for two people per sheet. See 4 vs 6 vs 10 gauge.
Questions
How thick is 4 gauge wire mesh? The wire is 0.225 in (5.7 mm) across. Where two wires cross at a weld the mesh is about twice that.
Is 4 gauge better than 6 gauge? It carries more steel, which keeps cracks tighter in a thicker slab. It is not automatically better: use what the design calls for. Extra steel placed at the bottom of the slab does nothing. Placement matters more.
Is 4 gauge the same as 4 gauge fence wire? Same wire size, different product. Concrete mesh is welded wire reinforcement made to meet ASTM A1064/A1064M and CSA G30.5, and ours does. Our latest independent test report is available with your quote (see Quality and testing).
