Quality and testing
How our mesh is independently tested, what the latest results show, and what to ask any supplier for.
Engineers, inspectors and buyers want to know the mesh is right before it goes in the slab. Here is the standard it meets, how it has been tested, and what to ask any supplier for.
The standards our mesh meets
Our welded wire mesh meets the requirements of ASTM A1064/A1064M, the specification for carbon-steel wire and welded wire reinforcement for concrete, and of CSA G30.5, the Canadian standard that CSA A23.1 points to for welded wire fabric. Those standards set minimums for wire strength, ductility and weld strength, and for wire size and spacing tolerances.
Canam Group has bought our mesh for about two years. A fabricator that size checks what goes into its work.
Independent testing
We check that with independent laboratory testing. We repeat it from time to time, and we arrange third-party testing of the material you are buying whenever a customer with a sizable order asks for it.
Latest result: a tensile test on a wire sample from our mesh, carried out by an independent laboratory in Calgary on August 26, 2025, following the ASTM A370 test method.
| Property | Our latest result | ASTM A1064 minimum |
|---|---|---|
| Yield strength | 590 MPa (85,500 psi) | 450 MPa (65,000 psi) |
| Ultimate tensile strength | 624 MPa (90,600 psi) | 515 MPa (75,000 psi) |
| Reduction of area | 60% | 30% |
Minimums are the ASTM A1064/A1064M tensile requirements for plain wire in welded wire reinforcement. Results apply to the sample tested.
What we provide
- Mesh that meets ASTM A1064 and CSA G30.5. Wire strength, ductility, weld strength and dimensions to the standards your drawings call for.
- The test report on request. We send the latest independent test report with your quote when you ask for it.
- Testing for larger orders. For a sizable order, we can arrange independent testing of the material you are buying.
- Clear designations. Every quote states wire size, spacing and sheet size in the notation on your drawings, such as
6x6-W2.9xW2.9.
What to ask for with any mesh order
The same list works for any supplier, including us.
- Recent test results for the wire, with the lab and the test date.
- Wire size, spacing and sheet size, checked against your drawings.
- Sheet weight, so you can plan unloading and handling.
- How the sheets are bundled and what protects them in transit.
For engineers and inspectors
- Designations use the standard W-number notation, for example
6x6-W2.9xW2.9. See welded wire mesh sizes for the gauge, W-number and steel area chart. - Wire is plain cold-drawn steel. Cold-drawn wire stretches less before it breaks than hot-rolled rebar, which matters in some structural uses. See wire mesh vs rebar.
- If your project needs specific testing or documents, say so when you request a quote.
